SAM HIYATE (he/him) is keen to discover new voices and help  writers prepare their works for market, and to help them build lasting careers. At his agency, The Rights Factory, he's worked with colleagues to discover and develop works with a number of writers and helped put them on bestseller lists. Sam also teaches A Literary Agent’s Guide to Getting Published at the University of Toronto Continuing Studies and is the host of the podcast Agent Provocateur, giving a behind-the-scenes view into publishing and agenting.

With a background in writing, editing, book scouting, and bookselling, Natasha has a deep understanding of what makes a story sing. Her experience extends beyond publishing—Natasha is also a trained soprano with a BA (Hons.) in Political Science and a Master’s of Public Administration. This unique blend of artistry and analytical thinking allows her to help writers craft stories that are both emotionally resonant and structurally sound.

JES TRUDEL (she/her) is not just a literary agent with The Rights Factory; she's a storytelling powerhouse with a passion for nurturing writers and bringing compelling voices to the forefront. Before stepping into the agenting world, Jes spent 15 years as a sought-after freelance editor and storytelling instructor, shaping countless manuscripts and guiding aspiring authors to find their unique narrative voice. She’s led workshops that have inspired thousands of writers across the globe, helping them unlock their storytelling potential.

 

Jes's expertise has made her a go-to guest presenter for prestigious organizations like SCBWI, the 12x12 Picture Book Challenge, Write For Kids, and the popular TSNOTYAW podcast. Her insights and articles have graced platforms such as BoldFace, Children’s Book Insider, and the SCBWI blog, where her advice continues to empower writers at all stages of their journey. As the founder of WritingCommunity.ca, Jes brings her love for storytelling to life, organizing vibrant, writing-adjacent events that connect, inspire, and elevate her local community of creatives.
